Racism is back in the mainstream, these guys didn't even try to hide it.

When the church doors open, only white people will be allowed inside.

That’s the message the Asatru Folk Assembly in Murdock, Minnesota, is sending after being granted a conditional use permit to open a church there and practice its pre-Christian religion that originated in northern Europe.

Despite a council vote officially approving the permit this month, residents are pushing back against the decision.

Opponents have collected about 50,000 signatures on an online petition to stop the all-white church from making its home in the farming town of 280 people.

“I think they thought they could fly under the radar in a small town like this, but we’d like to keep the pressure on them,” said Peter Kennedy, a longtime Murdock resident. “Racism is not welcome here."

You know darn well, that God forbid something horrible befalls that church or community, they will NOT close their doors to the aid that Black & Latino churches WILL provide.

The impact of Trump giving these people a platform is going to take a while to right itself, he's set us back a long way in the struggle for equality.

If it doesn't look like this, I'm calling shenanigans.

Love those guys.

On the general topic, people are joining organized religion less and less (which is why they are flailing so much) and getting pummelled with more stories like this is going to cause even less people to be interested in joining. In this case bad publicity is in fact bad publicity.

However, read an article this morning that people are replacing organized religion with hyper partisan politics. For now they are somewhat overlapping but eventually they can drop the religious pretense and then who knows what will happen when there's no longer a higher power to justify beliefs and actions.

The Anti-Defamation League has called the Assembly an “extremist group.” In 2015, the F.B.I. stopped a plot to bomb or shoot Jewish synagogues and Black churches by two men who subscribed “to a white supremacy extremist version of the Asatru faith,” an agent wrote in a federal affidavit. It is one of several like-minded groups that have adopted the imagery of Vikings, Norse mythology and medieval Europe.

While the group may be small, Ms. Brooks said, “We’re concerned about it because it continues to advance the desires of white nationalists to create a white ethno-state.” Such groups sometimes set up in largely white communities because they believe it will help them recruit more members, she said.

The symbols of this religion can be found in the weirdest places.
