JFC! I thought the internet was supposed to make us smarter. If you're dumb enough to eat chicken cooked in Nyquil then you deserve whatever heaves you get from it.

Meanwhile we have people in the US Congress trying to prevent social media mega corporations like Twitter or Meta from moderating content on their sites == even info that is clearly misleading, fabricated, harmful...

What a mess so many relatively tiny and vastly diverse groups of malingerers can cause all around the world, in every area of our lives on this planet.

Like someone on Twitter (ironically) said, these people confuse the constitution with a platform's terms of service.

Some of the jerks hanging out on the net are not about anything but making trouble.

Too bad it's so easy now to make "virtual trouble" go viral and without even getting off one's lazy behind. Sure it takes an idiot to try some of the stuff the jerks propose, but proposing it is stupid and may even be criminal.

It makes me hope that the idea of a just and merciful god is not just some lyric in a cantata.

I see this as two different situations. One is limiting clearly misleading or wrong information. The other is limiting political speech you don't like.

I would argue that they're the same thing, especially when it came to Jan 6th. The sitting president lost the election while he and his supporters used social media to spread lies and misinformation, and it was all political.

Well, the Darwin-award candidates that didn't inject the Clorox into their veins when President Pumpkinhead suggested it was a good Covid cure need another hill to die on, so, yeah, let's make sure every redneck truck-loving, gun toting magazine has a recipe on how to brine chicken in NyQuil.

Cull the herd, dammit! :D

It can be complicated but it isn't as complicated as some whiners would have it be. I mean some people would like all of Twitter to be as siloed as their own news/politics reading preferences are. That's never going to happen!

I make generous use of the tools that social media companies do provide to filter what one sees. But I have to say that when I occasionally ramp up my follows for awhile on some topic of interest, the algos kick in and provide me plenty glimpses of stuff that at least Twitter has allowed to remain that is pretty partisan on either side of the aisle.

So I dunno how much I buy that there is political bias in moderation of these humongous sites.

Ok, that's a specific instance.

But I can tell you that taking down misinformation is not applied equally to both sides. The left can put out any misinformation they want and the socials won't do anything about it.

By and large the left deals in verifiable facts which are much harder to discredit as to where Republicans tend to act out of emotion and anecdotal ideals. Of course there are exceptions to both but it's mostly the case.

However, if you go on over to Twitter you'll see Republicans blabbing about attacking FBI agents, promoting unproven COVID treatments and stolen election claims as far as the eye can see. NOBODY (and I mean nobody) is infringing on their right to say any of it. To watch these people spew on about lack of freedom of speech, while in the same breath acting like domestic terrorists uncensored, is the biggest myth of them all.

The idea that social media only goes after the right is a meme, with no basis in reality. Twitter bans trans democrats, liberals, socialists, LGBTQ people, for violating their TOS about as often as they do conservatives.

At the end of the day, these companies don't give a damn about politics. They want to keep things down to a low roar to insure they continue making money off of everyone involved without any unnecessary interference or hurt feelings.

The only difference is that conservatives have turned their bans into a way to whip up some fervor. They make a death threat, say something that might offend some of their advertisers, then portray themselves as being the victims of the secret socialist deep state when they get banned. I can't blame them for doing it, because good god, it's been spectacularly effective. But it's all still bullshit.

When your entire political platform is to go out of your way to make things as unpleasant as possible for people you don't like, you really shouldn't act all offended and surprised yourself when you get clapback.

...and by you, I don't mean you specifically. I'm using the royal "you" here. :p

Why is this still up? It is patently false. By the time Biden took office, 3.5M Americans had at least 1 shot and 1.9M were fully vaccinated. Yet this tweet is still up.

Ahem! (99% vaccinated during Biden-Harris administration, where the ~1% vaccinated during the previous misadministration were among first responders and so-called elites, then essential workers)

Bravo for them clarifying it. Twitter should have taken it down until it was corrected.

Yeah, it's bullshit. But it's the usual kind of bullshit. You know, the type of bullshit that doesn't risk getting people killed.

I agree. But I don't have time to go find all the retweets still up where Biden said "If you are vaccinated you can't catch COVID". That could cause people to get killed. Or at least very sick.

A couple of things here. First, if we wanted to go down the rabbit hole of Conservative tweets where they're promoting domestic terrorism and lying their asses off there wouldn't be enough hours in the day. You're completely missing the point by sharing "A" tweet you disagree with.

The other is that Conservatives never (EVER) come back with "we were mistaken, here's the actual data" and this only makes my point, it's never based on actual fact based discussion, it's all emotion and outrage.
