  • Internal Twitter emails showed the Biden campaign asked the company to remove posts.
  • Some of the posts contained nude photos of Hunter Biden shared without his consent.
  • The posts were in violation of Twitter's non-consensual nudity policy and contained no political content.
The newly published "Twitter Files," toted as a bombshell report revealing the inner workings of the platform's content moderation practices, showed the 2020 Biden presidential campaign asked Twitter to remove posts that were already in violation of its revenge porn policy.

Journalist Matt Taibbi, who writes the substack newsletter TK News, on Friday published a thread of tweets containing internal communications from Twitter officials indicating they had received requests from Joe Biden's 2020 presidential campaign to review tweets posted to the platform. The posts were subsequently removed.

"Handled these," an unnamed Twitter executive wrote in an email in response to five links shared by another Twitter employee.

Of the links to five since-deleted tweets that were shared in a screenshot by Taibbi, four had archives available online. All four of the available archives depicted nude photos and videos of the president's son that had been leaked after he allegedly left his laptop at a Delaware repair shop.

The removal has been seized upon by critics as evidence of the social media platform's bias in favor of Democratic politicians — and owner Elon Musk went so far as to call them a violation of the First Amendment — but the tweets contained no political content at all and instead depicted pictures and videos of Hunter Biden that had been circulated without his consent.

Twitter's non-consensual nudity policy specifically prohibits sharing "images or videos that are taken in an intimate setting and not intended for public distribution." California state law, where Twitter is headquartered, also makes sharing such imagery illegal.

"Twitter acting by itself to suppress free speech is not a 1st amendment violation, but acting under orders from the government to suppress free speech, with no judicial review, is," Musk tweeted in response to readers who argued the Biden campaign's request was a violation of the constitution's First Amendment.

However, legal experts were quick to point out that, since any representatives of the 2020 Biden campaign were not operating in any official government capacity as they were not yet government officials and because they were requesting illegal posts be removed, the contentious issue is not related to the constitution at all.

"For the millionth time, the First Amendment only applies to the government," Alejandra Caraballo, a clinical instructor at Harvard Law School's Cyberlaw Clinic, tweeted in response to Musk. "Biden was a private individual and his campaign wasn't the government. The links were literally to accounts that posted nude pictures of Hunter Biden, which is revenge porn and is unlawful in many states."

It's a tossup whether Musk or Trump is more of an out of control head case really.

And yet these guys are out on the street.
I never thought I would hate anyone more than Trump but Musk is just a worthless dirty piece of shit who cares only about himself and boosting his own status at any cost.

So by Twitter not allowing the claims to be posted, couldn't the same argument be made that they didn't interfer with election? They didn't allow something that wasn't verified to make a baseless (at the time) claim run ramped? They were trying to prevent another "But her emails" October nothing-burger surprise.

This is why I've washed my hands of them entirely, there is no credibility and you're reading whatever a single person with a partisan agenda wants you to read. If I wanted that I would watch Fox News, the difference here is Rupert Murdoch doesn't pull the strings of what the public posts.

From the documents that have been released so far, it doesn't look like anyone at Twitter bothered to reach out to the NY Post to even ask anything about how they got the laptop or did anything at all trying to verify anything about it. It seemed to be more stopping a story that could hurt a Dem candidate than trying to verify a story.

Almost as if it were cherry picked by a partisan social platform owner.

Hmm, seemed to… to you. Ok fine. But despite this supposed bombshell of a leak, there’s no actual evidence of that. It seemed to me that moderators got burned when they left unconfirmed stories spread wildly in 2016. So they were overly careful of something that seemed to be a scam. That’s what all their emails say; I suppose they could be lying, but they didn’t expect these emails to become public, so why would they lie to each other?

Also, one of the emails was from a Democratic member of Congress who suggested they NOT block the story. I’m not sure how you can square that with the idea that Democrats wanted it blocked.

I understand why it was initially pulled. But the original story was from a legitimate old school newspaper, not some internet blog. Twitter should have at the very least attempted to contact the Post to try and verify it.

Because he understood what was coming.

Quoted from here by @SuperMatt ;

It took almost a year for the data to be provided for independent verification. That‘s sketchy as hell.

In the end, 22K emails were verified, but almost all other data on the drive couldn’t be verified. Guess we know why the NY Post didn’t want to share with the rest of the class.

It’s pretty rich for the NY Post to complain about Twitter not wanting to host their possibly fake October surprise when its basic data wasn’t presented for verification until June 2021.

PS - Public figures OFTEN fail to deny false claims spread by tabloids or on the internet. They ignore them. So a lack of response from Hunter Biden was NOT a reliable indicator whether the info was true or not.

Biden folk asked for stuff be taken down (as stated above, dick pics and some very personal stuff that should not have been published). The Biden team was not a part of the government at that time. Mango and his people were at the time occupying the White House and got things suppressed and had a direct line to Twitter. Taibbi is really destroying his already tarnished credibility.

And the Post story was a whole lotta buckets of 🐂:poop: The supposed writers weren't the writers, with one discovering her name was added to the byline after the garbage was published. So-called "evidence" was not given to any other pub besides the Post (and IIRC, the Wall Street Journal a bit later). And many facts were either twisted or made up from whole cloth.

Maybe slightly more "legitimate old school" than The National Enquirer, but only just by a certain red whisker.
Calling the NY Post legitimate is pretty funny. My favorite is when they said Earth was gonna be destroyed by a newly discovered planet any day now…

There are many, many more examples of them printing stories that are completely false.

This is beyond stupid. This is a net loser for republicans. We sat through the Trump crime syndicate - and are still sitting through it - and they want us to focus on the president’s son, who stays off Twitter and isn’t in the White House.

They offer nothing to the same working voters who vote for them.
