The Biden/Harris ticket has a staunch Catholic on it in the person of Joe Biden! Tobin wouldn't even settle for Pope Francis on the ticket - not Catholic enough for him! He demands anti-abortion, anti-LGBTQ, anti-gay marriage. He hasn't, as far as I know, said anything about demanding anti-priests-abusing-children.

Of course not.

Does he want the kind of Catholicism that only Bill Barr can provide? Is he another of the Catholic Sharia fan club?

Better yet he's an Opus Dei fan. The concept of flagellation appealed to him. The problem is he thinks it means he can whip those who protest against his god, namely trump.

Oh dear gods.

I wouldn’t put it past him to also want someone else to flagellate him. For the sake of spiritual cleansing, of course.

Opus Dei is a great prelature that does lots of good. I used to go to their meetings and events, until they moved them too far from me. Watch less movies.

Stir pots much? Tobin should leave it alone. Biden's clearly a man of faith, hasn't even seemed to need an escort of armed guards carryng tear gas to clear a path to a church since he attends Mass so regularly he's become part of the wallpaper to the general public on that score... what more could an RC bishop prospectively and reasonably desire compared to the sometime spectacles of Trump and his assortment of sycophantic evangelicals?

I'm sick of clerics of any stripe trying to butt in where they don't belong anyway. Someone should mail all these dudes a copy of the Constitution whenever they pipe up with some complaint about the religious practices of pols in the USA.

We don't have a state religion, it's against the law to try to establish one and we're all free to worship or not as we damn well please. Yeah, even the prez. Do most of us cherry-pick here and there in our observances of a given religion? Sure, or we'd all be in the equivalent of convents and monasteries.

If Tobin thinks about Biden some more he will pipe down. Biden sets an example of practice that not all RCs manage to emulate these days. Doesn't the good bishop admire a guy who goes to Mass and obviously cares for the plight of other people?

(and is Tobin the same guy who was grousing at some order of activist nuns about spending less time out on the street helping poor people and more time refreshing themselves on church doctrine? No wonder the church is losing parishioners ffs.)

The real challenge is probably in growing up as child of a cleric or maybe even tougher, the child of a psychiatrist...

I'd say growing up the child of a psychiatrist would be the worst. Having your parents psychoanalyze every single thing you do would make anyone a jumpy mess of a person.

Though growing up around the lodge, I can tell you right now that all the conspiracy theories are BS. Honestly, I can't think of anything more boring than Freemasonry. It's all just a bunch of guys standing around talking about tractors, and ways to expand their membership so they'll have even more people to talk about tractors with.

My dad once asked me why I never joined the lodge. I was like why would I? I know what they do. The mystery is dead to me. I can't even use the secret handshake (which I still don't know how to do) to get out of speeding tickets anymore.

Opus Dei is the same. Quite boring, not much in terms of conspiracy to rule the world or any of that Dan Brown shit. What a pity.

Reminds me of Big Bang Theory and Leonard’s mother.

It’s not the Dan Brown shit. It’s the sharia-like belief in Catholicism.

meh. Vast majority of Catholics is quite mild.

That's the vast majority of Catholics. The ultra conservative beliefs are found in Opus Dei. It's the same difference in many religions between the every day believer and the ultra practitioner.

I found this funny: when your SOP is cheating people, it can be disorienting when people start cheating you.

… a growing mass of pro-(Individual-ONE) PACs, dark money groups and off-brand Facebook advertisers … have pulled in over $46 million so far. The groups mimic (Individual-ONE)’s brand in the way they look and feel. They borrow the president’s Twitter avatar on Facebook pages, use clips of (Individual-ONE)’s voice in robocalls asking for “an emergency contribution to the campaign” and, in some cases, have been affiliated with former (Individual-ONE) aides, such as onetime deputy campaign manager David Bossie. But most are spending little money to help the president win in 2020, POLITICO found.

The unofficial pro-(Individual-ONE) boosters number in the hundreds and are alarming the actual operatives charged with reelecting the president: They suck up money that (Individual-ONE) aides think should be going to the campaign or the Republican National Committee, and they muddy the Trump campaign’s message and make it harder to accumulate new donors, (Individual-ONE) allies say. “There’s nothing we can do to stop them,” said Kelly Sadler, a spokeswoman for America First, the one super PAC authorized by (Individual-ONE).
