I have just read about the death of George Schultz.

The veteran statesman died, aged 100.

He had served as Secretary of State under Ronald Reagan, - and continued to advise George H W Bush - and earlier, had servd as Secretary of Labor, and also enjoyed successful careers in academia and business.

Anyway, he strikes me as an excellent example of what I would term a "sane conservative", in that his terms in office were marked by a sensible approach, calm and mature and measured, and driven by a profound sense of what was understood by the concept of public service.
