This is dead on IMO, if you want civility you need to attach your real identity to it.
Definitely anonymity seems to empower a lot of these "keyboard warriors" - though a lot of the behaviour is maturity and upbringing. You're not going to install morals into people by reducing their anonymity. Heh...though I'm sure more than a few of us have fantasized about finding some of these assholes in real life. :D

LinkedIn actually isn't a good example. It was never supposed to be "Facebook lite". People that started treating it like Facebook and posting memes and inappropriate content are really hurting themselves professionally. It's become much more commonplace, but the guideline a lot of people used here previously was "if you wouldn't have the conversation in the office, don't post it here".

It will continue to evolve - and I think our society's going to continue to become less rigid.
