Put in the Covid section because Trump appears to be all vocally pro-vaccine all of a sudden, but with the “but it’s your decision" disclaimer. I’m sure it’s to separate himself from the herd of contenders against him, but usually he wouldn’t cross the beliefs or passions of his base.

There were reports that he didn’t like the optics of 1/6, not the actual attack, but who was participating. He would have preferred it was a bunch of suit and tie guys which honestly would have made it look like an absurd Monty Python skit. So it may stand to reason that he is equally appalled by the backwoods anti-vaxxers and low rent alternative peddlers and he doesn’t want to be associated with them. It could be possible that he occasionally does a face/palm when looking at the quality of his yes men. Occasionally.

Maybe someone has informed Trump that the rubes are turning on him. After all, he did say when encouraging them to go on down to the Capitol that he'd "be right there with them". But he wasn't, and so far he's not in jail and some of them are.

I don't think he's capable of this kind of depth or self-reflection, but he might be wrestling with the possibility that he is inconsequential and everything was about what he represented and unleashed. In a way the people are more loyal to the idealogy than him specifically. He might be attempting to pivot to a position where he is important above all else.
