I like links that look like this from a post here at TA:

At MRs that seems to happen most/all of the time.

Here is a link I posted here where that appearance does not happen. What controls this? Thanks!!

Ok, there has to be some invisible connection/link. I have demonstrated that if I copy a link from a site that it will unfurl properly, but if I copy the same identical link from a post, that the connection to the original source is lost and it will not unfurl. Thanks for the help!

OK, so if you paste a link into a site, it gets parsed, based in the specific site configuration, copying the resulting link (that's wrapped in BBCODE or whatever markup the site uses) of course might work differently. That's why said to use the original source link, not pass a URL through another site, and then attempt to RE-copy-and-paste that parsed URL into a different site.

i.e., do this:

Website with article >> Copy ORIGINAL_URL...

The full URL looks like it's working, we just need to be sure that it's on its own line (which appears to be the way you posted it) and the full URL is posted, in this case it's this
HTML:

It appears the link you posted is shortened for some reason.

Thanks!! That’s interesting because when I grab a link, I go to the link window highlight it, copy and paste. I have no idea why the entire link would not be copied, and yet the link still works?

Yeah, I've had that happen to me a few times now, if the link is shortened (even by the source that provided it) it can sometimes not display with the unfurl function for some reason. When that happens I go to the site linked and then copy the full URL out of the browser, it should always work in that case.

Isn't easier just to post links in "quotes", that's what I noticed people in PRSI did

From the initial link Huntn posted.

Test without quotes
https://www.forbes.com/sites/alison...lvania-lawsuit-amid-pressure/?sh=6f3702265143

Test with quotes
"https://www.forbes.com/sites/alison...lvania-lawsuit-amid-pressure/?sh=6f3702265143"

Test full URL

It appears that it still needs the full URL, truncated won't generate the actual preview from what I can see.

That's weird. Am I the only one who sees the quote version like your full url?

The original poster sees their link in a quote like your full URL, but everyone else just sees it as a link?

Here's how I'm seeing it (tested from two different browsers, one logged in and the other logged out)

Links imbedded in text- I’ll assume there is a setting so that text with embedded links change color. Based on my last post, where I put a link on the word link under the image, could you please turn that on? Could this also apply to the link below?

The link color is automatic but I added an underline to help differentiate it. However, you can also change the color yourself if you like as well.

I just posted a link in this message and is it brown? It is so close to black, I did not notice a different color at first. I’m used to seeing links take another color usually blue automatically without having to manually do it. If you give me a choice, blue is better, but this this is just a friendly suggestion.

Here is a post with a bunch of links that auto turn blue:
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/marvels-avengers-infinity-stone-epic-2011-19.2224945/

I I understand if you don’t want to change that because of the predominantly brown color schem of this site, however I would still suggest a more blue ;) or at least a more vividly blown color to designate links. Not trying to be difficult or dictate. I have no issue if you ignore this suggestion, I’ll just manually change the color of links myself. :)

It takes a bit of custom code, let me work with it.

It's because the shortened URL is a redirect, and the parser is returning the pre-redirected endpoint, which is effectively nothing.
