The lawsuit charges that Donald Trump and his attorney, Rudy Giuliani, “conspired” with two violent groups, Proud Boys and Oath Keepers, “to incite an assembled crowd to march upon and enter the Capitol of the United States” to stop Congress from certifying Biden’s electoral college victory.

This, the lawsuit contends, constitutes a violation of the 1871 Ku Klux Klan Act, which the complaint explained “was intended to protect against conspiracies, through violence and intimidation, that sought to prevent Members of Congress from discharging their official duties.”

The lawsuit was filed in the District of Columbia on behalf of Rep. Thompson by the NAACP and a New York law firm.

Mitch did say...

“The ultimate accountability is through our criminal justice system where political passions are checked,” said Republican senator Thom Tillis, who voted not guilty, “No president is above the law or immune from criminal prosecution, and that includes former president Trump.” Mitch McConnell, who likewise voted to acquit, announced, “Impeachment was never meant to be the final forum for American justice. … We have a criminal justice system in this country. We have civil litigation. And former Presidents are not immune from being held accountable by either one.”

Mitch is not gonna cry if a bunch of lawsuits tie Trump up in depositions from here to 2024 and beyond. He might even be handing out phone numbers of some fine law firms to members of Congress without their even asking, who knows.

I have a feeling there's no bottom to the loathing McConnel feels for Trump. And it's (mostly) not personal, but it's all pretty visceral and it has to do with Trump being so totally unreliable when it comes to "helping out" on the campaign trail for the GOP. Mitch gets it that Trump only means to help himself and even there messes up.

Mitch also knows the burden of proof is a lot higher in civil court than in the Senate impeachment trial and the longer it takes the longer conservative media will advertise it as a baseless witch hunt from the Democrats.

I honestly don't see how any of us left, right, and center or on the global stage can put much faith in our government if a large amount of Trumpers take over the Republican party along with conservative media that will highly praise them and help spread lies and disingenuous 1/8 facts. ie: blaming the Texas power crisis entirely on windmills.

Hah, yeah. Poor Texas is finding out that stuff doesn't run good on straight gaslighting after all.
