I posted some of these in the gardening thread, but I thought I would start a focused thread here. About a week ago I discovered a mantis on one of my bell pepper plants. It appears it has decided to homestead there because it has been there everyday since. It's well camouflaged and it's a great location to catch flying insects. I'll try to post a daily or near daily pic as long as it remains there. Here are some from over the last week.

Hahaha, reminder to self:

Get reincarnated as a mantis, track down CTM :D

I have to say it took a lot of restraint for me to not put this little guy in an enclosure, but realized they are doing what nature intended…pest control. Possibly as good karma they’ve stayed on the same plant which still allows me to enjoy them.

A bit harder to find after work since the sun is already off the plant and that’s when they start looking for a spot to post up for the night. I enjoy the challenge though.

These photos show how their front appendages are modified legs. The feet extend past the raptorial claws. I think part of what makes them so fascinating is they appear more like arms to us.
