In a hearing on Wednesday that was as performative as it was embarrassingly ill-informed, Senate Republicans tried to blame one of President Joe Biden’s judicial nominees — Nina Morrison, an attorney with the Innocence Project who has freed dozens of innocent people from prison — for driving up violent crime across America.
Morrison, 52, is up for a lifetime seat on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District Of New York. She is the senior litigation counsel at the New York-based Innocence Project, an organization focused on exonerating wrongly convicted people through DNA testing and reforming the criminal justice system to prevent future injustice.

These Senators are lazy. They have a staff that gives them a bunch of ridiculous talking points right before the hearing. They didn’t research any of it themselves.

That’s why you will often (as in her response to Sen. Hawley) see the person being questioned point out obvious and blatant inaccuracies in the “questions” (actually innuendos and unsupported accusations). But the Senators routinely ignore the corrections, as they ignore everything said by the nominees. They literally do not care what the answers are. They want to toss their political bombs and bloviate for their entire allotted time.

Hawley and Cruz show everybody just how ignorant they are on a daily basis. But I guess there are a lot of voters who don’t care, or who like to see those nonsensical “talking point” questions instead of actually learning something about the nominee when interviewing them.
