I know this doesn't fit the captain obvious face value definition of "police" but it still falls under policing. A frequent obstructionist response to change is "we need to just enforce the laws already on the books." Pick an agency...ATF...SEC....IRS...all charged with enforcing laws already on the books, and all underfunded to the point of being near pointless with the majority of the law breakers under their jurisdiction getting away with their crime. If they do get caught but have a lot of money and high power lawyers then there is a good chance the government won't pursuit it...because they don't have the resources or funding. For every case that does go to court there is probably a thousand that don't.

But this is the Republican way. Hobble an agency to being near pointless and then complain about it being a waste and abuse of tax payer money.
