'Gangsta's Paradise' rapper Coolio dies at age 59

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Coolio, the rapper who was among hip-hop's biggest names of the 1990s with hits including “Gangsta's Paradise” and “Fantastic Voyage,” died Wednesday at age 59, his manager said.

His biggest hit, Gangsta's Paradise, is a take on Stevie Wonder's "Pastime Paradise". One of the big reasons I got into Stevie Wonder so much, I started listening to the songs that were sampled in hip-hop and rap.

When I saw this news last night, I turned to my husband and said “awww, Coolio died.” He said “who?” I repeated myself. Somehow, he’d never heard of him.
