The USB-IF has listened to the criticism, jeering, and open mocking of their chosen naming scheme and simplified marketing labels.

  • USB 5Gbps: USB 3.0 and 3.1 Gen 1
  • USB 10Gbps: USB 3.1 Gen 2, 3.2 Gen 2×1, and 3.2 Gen 1×2
  • USB 20Gbps: USB 3.2 Gen 2×2
  • USB 40Gbps: USB4’s initial version as currently shipping
The bureaucratically named USB4 2.0 will likely be renamed USB 80Gbps.

More in the article about active vs. passive cables, product labeling, and power delivery. It's not perfect, but an improvement over the nonsense we had previously.

it’s a slight improvement. But every cable and port should be labeled, etc.
