"And I guess for us, it's all about transparency so the American people can judge for themselves," he said. "So they may be able to ignore Congress but they can't ignore the American people."

Although Meadows quickly backed off his impeachment threat against Rosenstein in 2018, it came as a result of the latter's involvement in the probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election. "Multiple times we've caught DOJ officials hiding information from Congress, withholding relevant documents, or even outright ignoring congressional subpoena," Meadows said in a statement at the time.

Now:
(CNN)Former Trump White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows did not appear for a deposition on Friday in front of the House select committee investigating January 6, sources familiar with the investigation tell CNN, setting up a potential showdown that could lead to the panel beginning a criminal referral process against him.

Committee staffers had been prepared to go forward with the interview and waited in a room on Capitol Hill with a stenographer, but started to file out of the room nine minutes after the deadline passed.

Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson, a Mississippi Democrat, and Vice Chairwoman Liz Cheney, a Wyoming Republican, said in a statement on Friday that Meadows' actions force the panel to consider criminal contempt of Congress, but they stopped short of saying that is the path they will officially pursue.

"Mr. Meadows's actions today -- choosing to defy the law -- will force the Select Committee to consider pursuing contempt or other proceedings to enforce the subpoena. If his defiance persists and that process moves ahead, the record will reveal the wide range of matters the Select Committee wished to discuss with Mr. Meadows until his decision to hide behind the former President's spurious claims of privilege," the pair said in a statement.

As I live and breathe!

Trump strategist Steve Bannon indicted on contempt charges in Jan. 6 investigation

He has surrendered to the FBI.

I don’t understand why he wouldn’t be eager to testify against Trump, with the way Trump savaged him in the media.

It's a lot easier to understand if you think of them as the Mafia. They live by Omertà, the Cosa Nostra's code of silence.

It's not the only way they're like the Mafia either.

They did it all in the name of "voter integrity". :cautious:

The FBI on Tuesday raided the home of a Colorado election clerk and three others in an investigation into a voting system security breach.

Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters, a Republican, was accused by state officials in August of helping to leak voting system passwords to a right-wing blog. Peters later appeared at MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell's conspiracy-laden "cyber-symposium," where the pillow magnate promised but failed to produce evidence of election-rigging. Peters later briefly went into hiding with Lindell's help amid FBI scrutiny.

On Tuesday morning, the FBI and local prosecutors raided Peters' home.

The FBI also raided a home in Garfield County, Rubinstein confirmed. Lindell said one of the homes raided belongs to Sherronna Bishop, a Garfield County resident who served as Rep. Lauren Boebert's, R-Colo., campaign manager. Bishop has been one of Peters' most prominent allies in stoking unfounded allegations of voting machine problems in the election and hinted at a rally last month that she was privy to unreleased data from Mesa County and Lindell's "cybersecurity team."

A judge last month banned Peters from overseeing elections in her county after a lawsuit filed by Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold, a Democrat. Griswold led an investigation over the summer that found that Peters shut off surveillance systems and allowed an unauthorized person to access the county's voting system during a security update. Just days later, Ron Watkins, a Qanon conspiracy theorist believed to be one of the masterminds behind the movement, published photos of election equipment that he said he received from a whistleblower. Watkins and the far-right blog Gateway Pundit also published passwords unique to Mesa County officials used to access the county's Dominion voting system computers and servers. Two copies of the Dominion server hard drive were later published as well. Griswold in August ordered dozens of pieces of the county's election equipment to be decertified over the security breach and appointed a supervisor to oversee the county's future elections.

Peters, during the probe, appeared at Lindell's 72-hour "cyber symposium," where he invited reporters to view evidence of his vote-rigging conspiracy theory but failed to produce any. Peters, who was met with cheers at the event, now casts herself as a victim of a politically motivated investigation and compared Colorado to Nazi Germany.

You mean we should be going after people hacking voting machines and trying to rig the vote from within the system instead of purging voter rolls, ending early voting, and making ID requirements for voters? You don’t say!

The seriously most egregious case of this lopsided approach to consequences?

Meet the man championed by republicans & Faux News as the 'smoking gun' of definitive proof there is voter fraud, and the justification for so much of the fuckery since then...

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A Las Vegas man charged with forging his dead wife’s signature on her ballot, mailing it in and then claiming it had been stolen, has agreed to plead guilty.

The I-Team was first to report last month that Donald “Kirk” Hartle, 55, was facing two charges relating to the 2020 election.

The charges came after an investigation from the Secretary of State’s Office, which looks into any voter fraud allegations in connection with the Nevada Attorney General’s Office.

Rosemarie Hartle, of Las Vegas, died in 2017 at age 52 from breast cancer, Kirk Hartle, told the I-Team last November. A ballot for Rosemarie was issued in October 2020 and later received by the county, but Kirk said the ballot never came to his house. The I-Team found even though Rosemarie died in 2017, her name appeared on the active voter list.
In a guilty plea agreement filed Monday, Kirk Hartle will plead guilty to one charge of voting more than once in the same election, which is a category D felony. Category D felonies carry a maximum prison sentence of four years.

As part of the plea deal, Hartle will avoid prison time and will have to serve probation. If he stays out of trouble for a year, he will be able to withdraw his plea and instead plead guilty to a charge of conspiracy to commit voting more than once in the same election.
He would then be fined $2,000 and receive credit for time served.

Who didn't get a plea deal? The one Black woman who honestly was NOT aware she couldn't vote. Who gets off pretty much scott free? The White guys who INTENTIONALLY voted for a candidate that liked to claim the system was rigged.

Yes. The system is rigged. We've seen it every time someone claims voter fraud, gets caught for it themselves, and gets a slap on the wrist for it.

Mark Meadows (former Trump White House Chief of Staff) may be next in line for contempt charges after Steve Bannon.

Update: Meadows has decided to cooperate, but we will see if he follows through.

Money problems continue to plague MyPillow CEO-turned-election conspiracy theorist Mike Lindell, with the staunch Trump ally revealing Friday on Steve Bannon's podcast that he had recently been asked by his bank to close his accounts over fear of the institution's "reputational damage" if it continued to be associated with the controversial figure.

The pillow maven played a recorded call he said came from the bank, Heartland Financial, giving him 30 days to take his business elsewhere. The alleged representative said the institution is afraid his bank records may soon be subpoenaed by federal authorities, presenting a risk to the bank's image.

But the request apparently fell on deaf ears — with Lindell telling Bannon that he refuses to pull his money from the bank.

"I said, 'I am not being part of this. I'm not leaving. So you're going to have to throw me out of your bank,'" Lindell said.

Representatives for Lindell did not immediately return a request for comment for this story.

Just think about this, if left unchecked, there will come a day when the courts and the Federal government will be stacked with malfeasance and we will be Russia, the Russia that the GOP hated until 2016 when they were Trump lobotomized.

But they are not unchecked. Not quite yet. With respect to the courts, Biden has put his nose to the grindstone and has been getting federal bench appointments confirmed.

President Biden has gotten a group of 40 federal judges confirmed in the Senate this year [2021], the most for a new president since the Reagan era — and he's prioritizing diversity among his nominees for these life-tenured posts.

Biden's nominees include the first openly LGBTQ woman to sit on a federal appeals court, Beth Robinson of Vermont, and the first Muslim American to be a judge, Zahid Quraishi of New Jersey. Biden has also named more Black women to circuit courts, many of them former public defenders, than any other president.

Former President Donald Trump's 226 judges were overwhelmingly white and male. A new analysis concluded that nearly 75% of Biden's picks have been women, and nearly 65% have been people of color, according to Alliance for Justice, a liberal coalition that works on court and judicial issues.

Also, the Dems in 2022 took a page from the GOP's playbook during the Trump era, and are now proceeding to schedule Judiciary Committee hearings for federal bench nominees without the traditional nod to the "blue slip" custom, where as a courtesy, judicial nominations aren't advanced unless both Senators from a nominee's home state turn in a blue slip of paper indicating their approval.

The GOP completely ignored that custom during Trump era, and 17 nominations were confirmed that lacked the blue slips. Dems now say hey good for goose, good for gander. Of course the GOP is flipping out because after all they don't believe the Democrats are even a legitimate political party...

What goes around comes around, Durbin basically said Wednesday.

“Republicans chose to abandon this senatorial courtesy,” said the Illinois Democrat. “Simply put, there shouldn’t be one set of rules for Republican nominees under a Republican president and a different set for nominees under a different president.”

I’m happy with Biden’s performance, but let’s talk about this more in November. I imagine if the GOzP takes control of the Congress, every Democrat initiative will grind to a halt.
