Tawdry Mr Trump

In today's edition of the Guardian, I have just read that Mr Trump, (the egregious, the execrable, the inexcusable), has just issued 15 pardons, including four to the Blackwater military contractors who had been convicted of machine-gunning Iraqi men, women and children to death; oh, and they also unleashed sniper fire and grenade launchers while on their murder spree.

He also pardoned Chris Collins, imprisoned for making false statements to the FBI and conspiracy to commit securities fraud, and Duncan Hunter, who admitted misusing campaign finance funds. Collins and Hunter were the first two congressmen to endorse Trump in the 2016 presidential election.

Pardons for George Papadopoulos and Alex van der Zwaan, both convicted as a result of the special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation, were equally unsurprising.

At the same time, he has accelerated the number of federal executions, - what Senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren have described as "an unprecedented spree" - including the first execution of a woman in 67 years by the US federal government.

While I loathe the cynicism, corrosive corruption, mendacity, malevolent narcissism, and almost illegal incompetence of Mr Trump, I think I detest his sheer shamelessness, his vicious and vindictive personality, and his passion for sadistic cruelty, even more.

In a piece published in today's Irish Times - Michael McDowell, (a very impressive former Attorney-General, a former Minister for Justice, and a former Tánaiste - i.e. Deputy Prime Minister, - and a very formidable lawyer, a sane and sober and serious individual, who gives considerable thought to the words he uses in both speech and when writing) - had this to say about Mr Trump:

..."Practically no printable adjective is excessive or unwarranted in describing this truly detestable man. Evil, amoral, loutish, cruel, self-obsessed, lying, arrogant, hating, greedy, cynical, and dangerous – these only tell half the story of the man....."

I don’t think tawdry is the most accurate adjective for :poop:. You are too kind.😳

To state it crudely and simply right up Mr Trump’s alley, when we put a giant turd in charge of the United States of America, we erected a jumbo fountain of shite, think Washington Monument sized that not only flows down all over us, but sprays in our noses, mouths, eyes, and ears, and up in the atmosphere reaching a good portion of the world that his putrescence can reach.

And while acknowledging he’s not Stalin or Pol Pot, if we‘d given him another term in office all bets are off. Even though it’s a daunting challenge even for POTUS, once he had law enforcement, The Justice Dept, the courts properly stacked, the military under control, and if the The GOzP was still in charge of Congress we’d be on our way to a Civil War.

At least thank goodness it appears that we are at least backing away from the edge of oblivion, but that is not yet a certain outcome. 👀

If Trump and his people don't suffer any serious consequences then I don't see what is going to prevent another Trump from taking office. You really think we can rely on voters? After a Democrat in office for 4 years and right-wing news labeling him a socialist devil despite mountains of evidence to the contrary? You think facts are suddenly going to become important to these people?

Mr McDowell argued - in his piece today - that Mr Trump would, most likely, have won a second term but for Covid.

He could have won the election even with Covid if he just ignored his ignorant impulsive responses and did the polar opposite. Wherever he ends up in the afterlife he's going to be greeted by a large gathering of supporters who are going to be less than welcoming to his arrival.

I hope career public servants have been sitting on evidence that can land dozens of Trump administration officials in prison after Trump is gone and nobody will pardon them. When people are doing hard time for helping a lawless wannabe dictator, it makes sure those folks never work in government again, and discourages others who might decide to try something similar in the future.

Well, Trump just added Roger Stone, Paul Manafort and Charles Kushner.

Honestly, compared to the Blackwater thugs who murdered dozens of Iraqi civilians including little kids using machine guns and grenades, I couldn’t give a 💩 about who else he pardons.

The PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES repeatedly pardoned WAR CRIMINALS convicted by their own country. Whatever the worst circle in hell is, they need a new one for him when his time comes. 70 million people voted for this guy. F ’em all.

Agree, pardoning war criminals is the lowest of low and its wider message is that killing unarmed civilians is OK with the US Armed forces (as long as the victims aren't white).

If :poop: has done anything it is to illustrate the power a irresponsible President should not have. The challenge for Congress will be how to modify the power of the Presidency to prevent this in the future. Then you can ask if our 50% GOP Congress even gives a shit at this point and I have an implausible solution for that, stop electing unqualified shit heads to lead. It’s just so discouraging that roughly half of the voting populace are motivated the way they are, very destructive to our system of governance.

What does that say about almost half the number of voters in this election? Nothing good. :(

I have come around to the view that Secretary Clinton was criticised unnecessarily harshly when she described those who supported Mr Trump as a basket of deplorables.

Yes, perhaps it was unwise, unmannerly, and somewhat undiplomatic, but it was not inaccurate and nor was it untrue.

Moreover, to hold her to account for that lapse of langauge - or, lapse in giving public expression to private thoughts - when the administration of Mr Trump has been guilty of the most egregious, outrageous, corrupt and callous conduct - is to accept a double standard in public life of almost unbridgeable proportions.

It’s worth the harshest of clinical laughs when Trump supporters start criticizing, rationalizing everything but their favorite turd.

Here’s a write-up by the DoJ on how they prosecuted somebody who stole millions from the government through a scheme of Medicare fraud. He got 20 years in prison.

Donny just pardoned him so he won’t even spend 20 months there.

Hooray Trump.

Donny wears corruption like a badge of honor and does not care who sees. It’s how his twisted brain works.
