the fires the deaths the injuries the explosions all in America's stupidity.

Explosion at gender reveal party rocks several towns

KINGSTON, N.H. (AP) — One New Hampshire family’s gender reveal party was such a blast that it rattled towns, set off reports of an earthquake, and could be heard from across the state line, police said.

Police in Kingston, a town not far from the Massachusetts border, received reports of a loud explosion Tuesday evening. They responded to Torromeo quarry where they found people who acknowledged holding a gender reveal party with explosives.

The source was Tannerite — 80 pounds (36 kilograms) of it, police said. The family thought the quarry would be the safest spot to blow up the explosive, which is typically sold over the counter as a target for firearms practice, police said.

Nearby residents said the blast rocked their homes. Some reported property damage, NBC 10 Boston reported.

Meanwhile the lady who started all this nonsense apparently is now regretting her part. Her gender reveal was a simple as pink icing in a cake but apparently she's now saying that her daughter is exploring her identity and where she lies in the gender spectrum making the whole thing rather mute.

Personally I find the whole thing rather dumb anyway. Who cares what the babies gender is? It's a child - a living breathing human being - revel in the magic and delight of that rather than the gender which in the 21st century should be pretty irrelevant.

Meanwhile, in the eugenics world of gene modification, I wonder if the gender reveal parties are going away to be replaced by 'Profession" reveals - "It's an astronaut!"

That reminds me of a TV commercial. For what I don't know, but it has a lady with her mother attending the ultrasound and the doctor announces the baby is a video game developer.

I come from a time that it was not a thing to find out the gender prior to the baby's arrival. I was in a car accident when I was pregnant with my daughter and they still would not do an ultrasound.

I get that people want to prepare the nursery early, but do people still go with pink and blue? I really dislike gender reveals.

I too get that people want to prepare the nursery early, it’ll be so much harder once the baby is born. I’m totally in favor of that for anyone fortunate enough to being able to afford having a nursery. Not sure what gender’s got to do with preparing the nursery, though. I would be way more concerned about figuring out the expected quantity of incoming nursery inhabitants and getting that part right.

Really glad gender reveals aren’t a thing here. Hope we never import them like we did with Halloween.

I think having a gender reveal party with explosives on the scene says way more about the parents than the impending kid. And nothing complimentary either.

And, in later life, such as the tantrum teenage years, rebellion and rage, and all that sort of stuff, such a kid would be well within their rights to query the quality of the DNA with which their parents furnished them.

Ah, brings back the memories of when we had our daughter. When the doctor viewed the ultrasound, he asked us if we wanted to know the gender, and I was glad when my wife agreed with me that the answer was a firm "no".

Pleasant surprises are few and far between enough in life. We didn't want to ruin it.

At the time we already had boys, and my wife was hoping for a girl. One of my fondest memories was the delivery. I was in the room when the doctor said, "Well, you've got your girl!" and my wife began crying. I know part of it was relief, but from the way she was smiling though the tears I knew immediately that most of it was tears of joy.

Another thing that seems to have been commercialised in the US and has spread to the rest of the western world. Other examples are Halloween, crap fast food and Valentine’s Day lol.

We've always had Hallowe'en, - the festival itself is ancient - but the rampant commercialisation is a relatively recent - and regrettable - development.

Oh yeah I know the origin of it, just the commercialisation annoys me and is a cash grab by retailers.
You wanna talk about commercialization? Look at Easter. That should be the most important day in the Christian calendar and yet instead of spending the day in prayer and worship it’s spent...eating chocolate and hunting for colored eggs.
