This Michael Caputo?

Yet another typical Trump associate. Racist to the bone.

IMO Trump would love to see nothing more than armed conflicts here in America and his sheep supporters are dimwitted enough to take the hint.

If Trump steals this election, I predict we will watch the White House burn to the ground before 2024.

This man is literally losing his mind.
Mr. Caputo, who has faced criticism for leading efforts to warp C.D.C. weekly bulletins to fit Mr. Trump’s pandemic narrative, suggested that he personally could be in danger.
“You understand that they’re going to have to kill me, and unfortunately, I think that’s where this is going,”...
Mr. Caputo on Sunday complained on Facebook that he was under siege by the media and said that his physical health was in question and his “mental health has definitely failed.”
“I don’t like being alone in Washington,” he said, describing “shadows on the ceiling in my apartment, there alone, shadows are so long.”

Seriously, folks: this is a man with a mental problem. If someone told you stuff like this, I’d wager you’d start drawing small circles next to your head with your index finger. He needs to be removed from his job, like, now.

Again, that seems to be a job requirement these days.

Yeah I guess he's literally an exemplar of what's meant by "the paranoid style of American politics"...

I always took that phrase to be just the title and theme of an essay by historian Richard J. Hofstadter...

this Caputo interview/piece is certainly one of the darkest strategies that the trump r party's surrogates have ever engaged in.

the Kimberly G r convention speech was simply over-the-top scary.
but this Caputo thing is frightening.

these are people who will stoop to anything to win in order to further their white, right wing agenda.

would these people be capable of murder - literal murder - in order to win ?

the combination of grifters needing to get their pocket stuffing fixes and usamericans with just a complete contempt for government is a potent force.

meanwhile, voters are fodder in their game.

Wisconsin, stay strong.
Pennsylvania, im counting on ya.
Arizona, vote your conscience.
Florida senior citizens, trump is making Social Security less secure.

Pennsylvania could be problematic, apparently. Even a little town that was once a prime example of New Deal communitarian life in the USA has somehow become a hotbed of pro-Trump sentiment these days, per a fascinating piece in the Philadelphia Inquirer over the weekend.

Well, it looks like Mr. Caputo is going away for a little, er, rest.

Top HHS official takes leave of absence after Facebook rant on CDC conspiracies

In the announcement, HHS said Caputo "has decided to take a leave of absence to focus on his health and the well-being of his family. Mr. Caputo will be on leave for the next 60 days."

Caputo issued a statement a short time later saying that he was receiving treatment for a recently discovered "lymphatic issue."
Uh, maybe. But this couldn’t have come at a better time.

Yep. As soon as I saw this episode on the wire, I knew someone was about to put out to pasture. The problem is that this whole ideology is the deep heart of the Trump mode.

As @lizkat noted:"the paranoid style of American politics."

The right needs to stop masturbating about open revolt. I keep seeing memes from right-wingers about rural folks and BLM/Antifa, and it shows a desire, almost drooling in anticipation, for a chance to shoot someone.

And, the right seems to think that the left is wholly unarmed, forgetting that the proverbial left isn't just whingy college students, but also sun-burned old-heads like me who have been shot at by underfed people high on khat, and won't take kindly to suburban soldiers and their bullshit.

this is a great find. thanks.

i have been meaning to post this and your posted article fits well.

there was (not so much now since we all depend on Biden/Harris ticket and need to support it 100%) - but there was, up until Sanders felt he needed to concede the nomination many months ago, that in fact Sanders and the whole 9 yards of progressivism was needed to win against trump.
there is a lot, a very lot, of stark reality truth to this.

- trumpism is (duh!) not conservatism

- trumpism is a revolt against modern politics and political marginalisation

- if we weed out the core racist elements of trumpism - no matter what socioeconomic class this group is attached - the majority of the remaining people are in fact economically, medical safety net, and educational level "forgotten" left -behind people

these people should have been easy to ensure they vote straight Democratic ticket.
these are the people whom the D party should be fighting for and with.

- but this group doesnt see traditional (normative before trump) politics as benefitting themselves.
their vote is reactionary. an anti-status-quo vote.

- to have really kept this group in the D party, a Socialist agenda would have been more popular to what racist tinged turmpism is offering.

yes, its true that this group does not understand the concepts of inherent white privilege and how important the BLM movement is, and how important we need to act against climate change, etc etc. that is true.
but they could have been kept within the ranks of the D party.

instead, i worry that we have ceded these people to the anti-mainstream wacko (new) r party.

Trumpism will go the way of the Tea Party. There is no platform for the Republican Party. It will keep changing depending on who is running it.

Yep. 2016 was when the progressives would have done well to have won the Ds' nomination because the country was in a populist mood and really it didn't matter which traditional party of registration the discontented hailed from.

It was all about "enough already". Now after four years of Trump gaslighting everyone, who the hell knows if or what the left-behind actually believe that either some moderate Rs or some progressive Ds could offer them.

The brainwashing has been pretty intensive while Trump has been in office. The cult of personality amped up via social media does sweep people up and dumb them down. I meant it when I posted somewhere that we should just dig up Lewis Carroll and let him write the history of the Trump era and so convert his two prior Alice novels into a trilogy... and meanwhile what Trump is leaving behind is an unholy mess of a constituency he has ignored except for the top tier and industry lobbyists.

The Rs have pretty much copped to the fact they have no platform. Hence that bizarre convention which would have been almost that bizarre even sans constraints of covid-19.

And the reason they have no platform is precisely because they are so fissured on issues.

They're half made of "fuck-you" anti-establishment attitudes and conspiracy theories now --people who don't really expect anything from government anyway and have had it pounded into their heads that federal government is about socialism for someone else's benefit but meanwhile will definitely take people's guns-- versus the other half who are cynical enough to support the Rs just because deregulation and tax cuts suit their tax brackets. So it pays those cynics to roll with the swamp critters of congress who are essentially beholden to K street and the top 1%.

I hasten to say though that if the Ds win control of the Senate, the swamp critters will still be financed by K street and the top 1%. It really is sad that Bernie Sanders didn't nail the Ds' nomination in 2016, it was an ideal time to shift gears and reboot some thinking about the purposes of federal government in the USA. By the time 2020 rolled around the right had converted the R-leaning populists into a personality cult and written them off as expendable entertainment for Trump and the media. Meanwhile all the business of the Trump era was about deregulation and permanent tax breaks for industry and healthy one-offs for the top 0.1%. Oh, and packing the courts... the ace in the hole against progressive power rebooting legislation later on.

We on the left really messed up in the general elections of 2016, regardless of who should really own the meddling or failure to show up and vote blue that year. The chance to flip that around this year may stop the trainwreck but not the bleeding from all the trainwrecks we've endured since Trump was sworn in, lots of them so far unnoticed (believe it or not). The federal agencies have been hollowed out like nobody's business, and we don't know how hard that will be to repair.

There was an entire book written about this, and it's both fascinating and sad. It's probably a little outdated, though, because the attraction of conservatism now is not just the fake empathy for the economically oppressed, it's also the freedom to enthusiastically express racism.

Trumpism will go the way of the Tea Party.
A lot of Tea Party sympathizers got elected to Congress.

i don't look forward to 2021 - when it becomes more evident to folks that the (new) r party is in fact a party that is a set of Reactionary elements to counter a d party that is mischaracterised as being primarily based on social justice issues that a diversity platform makes front and centre.

i foresee that latino voters will increasingly find a more comfortable home within the r party over time (2024 and beyond).

therefore the d party must develop clearer and straightforward policies that stay focused on helping the average person.
a more apparent and easy to understand economic class focused strategy rather than a strategy that is easily mischaracterised as only a diversity based platform.

this harks back to my earlier post: it is becoming clearer that in fact a Sanders type of approach is, long term, the strategy that is sustainable and winning.

west virginia should be a d. that is why manchin is its senator.
NW Pennsylvania should be a d region.
NY-23 should be a d house seat.
all of Wisconsin should be d.
iron range Minnesota should be d

Yeah and is the budget balanced yet? I’m pretty sure that was their big thing, and it died a hasty death. They don’t talk about it at all anymore.
