We're seeing just how low Trump will go with his scorched earth policy, taking down one of the most trusted men in America.

Donald Trump has signed an executive order enabling him to fire a class of federal employees that includes Dr. Anthony Fauci at will, in addition to leaders at the CDC.

I think that his scorched earth policy will be nihilistic and comprehensive, even if he is defeated; this man only knows how to destroy and trash and wreck and humiliate.

The trump administration has openly admitted it’s not interested in controlling COVID. Why on earth has Fauci not resigned? How big does a failure have to be? How big of an ‘FU’ can Fauci take, before he finally removes his imprimature from this fiasco? It’s utterly baffling the amount of abuse he’s taken to work on a task force that was never going to be allowed to succeed. Utterly baffling.

If he loses the election how much damage is he allowed to do in a couple months? I'll also be curious to see how many Republican politicians give him the definitive middle finger.

I don't think Fauci see's his job as working for the president, he has always stuck to his position no matter who was in office.

His job is LITERALLY working for the president.

It’s called the WHITE HOUSE Coronavirus Task Force.

He’s only worked for the White House Coronavirus Task Force under Donald Trump, beginning in January 2020.

So many are worried about what he could do with a 2nd term. We may need to have him removed should he lose November 3rd. Especially if it's closer than polling suggests. He would go ballistic and nothing would be off the table.

I think he - Dr Fauci - sees - or may see - his job, or position, as a sort of "speak truth to power" adviser's position; therefore, his job is to tell the president what he needs to hear (about the specific subject area under discussion: Foreign affairs, economic policy, public health re the Corona virus), and not what he (Mr Trump) may want to hear.

If it were true, that Fauci spoke truth to power, then I’d have no problem with him. But instead he’s constantly pulled punches and crafted his statements to not criticize trump. In his July 29 interview, Fauci said this about criticizing trump, “I don't want to go there, because that's just not helpful. It's going to be detrimental to my effort. So I don't want to talk about that.” That is not speaking truth to power.

In the meantime things have only gotten much worse.
  • Fauci's own colleagues on the task force voted to change CDC guidelines on testing while he was in the hospital having surgery.
  • The trump campaign took Fauci's words out of context to craft a political ad that looked like Fauci has praising trump. (Fauci's response: if they try that again he'll consider it "harassment")
  • Fauci admits that the president hasn't been interested or involved in the task force for months
  • Trump repeatedly denigrates Fauci, embracing instead advice from a doctor who champions "herd immunity"
  • The administration finally admits they are not interested in controlling the pandemic at all
Do you think if trump worked for Fauci, that Fauci would tolerate this? Obviously not. And that's why this is anything but "speaking truth to power." Speaking truth to power is when you have the courage to say the same thing to your boss, that you would say to an underling. Speaking truth to power is when your message doesn't change because somebody is in a position of authority.

But with Fauci we don't see that kind of courage. We see instead a man cowed into submission, carefully spinning his criticism so he never quite angers trump enough, and never calls into question the actions and motives that have led to the deaths of over 225,000 Americans ... and counting.

There was another infectious disease specialist, Dr. Richard Bright, who blew the whistle when he saw science being ignored and dangerous moves being made by the White House. Bright claims that the last straw was seeing a memo that called for "flooding the streets with hydroxychloroquine." I'm sure Fauci saw that memo. I'm sure he's seen and heard much worse. Yet he remains silent. And it's in that silence that he is complicit.

One week away from the election, and he chooses to remain silent instead of letting the people know what trump has really said and done, allowing trump to continue to ignore the needs of this nation in the face of a worsening pandemic and lie to the people in the hope of holding onto power. And you people defend that. You and other members here continue to defend Fauci's silence, and even have the temerity to claim he's "speaking truth to power."

Give me a fucking break.

I think out of all the people who have tried to navigate inside Trump World Fauci has probably been one of the best. The alternative is he gets replaced with a yes man until that person stops saying yes. Rinse and repeat. Fauci has mostly walked Trumps thin line of tolerance.

When Trumps former yes men start airing grievances after the fact the response has largely been “ Yeah, yeah. Get in line. Nothing new to see here.” There’s no exiting the Trump administration with credibility in tact.

Fauci was put on the task force because of his actual job. We all know the task force is a joke. Thank goodness they weren’t put in charge of guns or they’d all have shot themselves by now!

"The alternative is he gets replaced with a yes man ... " Okay. In light of an administration that admits it has no interest in controlling the pandemic, what difference does it make if he is replaced by a yes man, especially one week from the election?

Exactly. Fauci's imprimatur is what helps to give that farce credibility. And for that endorsement, he has been ignored, endured an incredible amount of disrespect, and seen his own colleagues try to end run around him, all for a failed effort that was never intended to succeed.

That would really piss me off if I were him. How long would any of us work for a boss who ignored our advice, outright thwarted our efforts, and disrespected us in the process ... while nearly a quarter of a million Americans die?

That is not speaking truth to power. That is rolling over like a dog, letting people kick you, and saying, "thank you sir, can I have another?"

He’s in a difficult place. Some people will hang on as long as possible to try to prevent the worst case scenario, while others can’t take it personally.

I think him remaining serves the purpose of getting some good information out there and preventing some deaths. I think there are still enough idiots out there who will listen to somebody tied to Trump. Once removed from Trump's circle completely they just become another person with an ax to grind and to be ignored.

A week before the election. How much worse could the scenario get? When we find out how much he has heard and seen, people will wonder how he could have stayed silent. Vindmann heard a phone call. Dr. Bright saw a memo. Recently a Justice Department official resigned because AG Barr threatened to delay a report. These are examples of courage that I’m used to seeing in my public servants. Fauci’s not in a difficult position. The Task Force is a farce. It’s official.

Any information he wants to give out can be given out without him being on the task force. Fauci could go on any outlet he wanted and spread information all day long. He would be the most sought after voice In media.

I’d argue he wouldn’t be on conservative outlets, and that’s where a good portion of older conservatives get their information from. They may not like Trump but probably not enough to make them change their main news sources.

Speaking of which, read earlier that the great Democrat hoax that is Covid-19 finally hit the hallways of Fox News including 3 show personalities and a producer who died from it. They should all survive considering how much of Trump’s super immunity sperm they’ve been swallowing.
