Das Boot was simply brilliant, and The NeverEnding Story (based on a really lovely, bittersweet, book by the excellent German writer Michael Ende) was a wonderful movie.

Very sorry to learn this; RIP.

Ja. Er hat tolle Filme gemacht. In the Line of Fire. Air Force One. Das Boot. Das andere Boot. Mehr Boote (Perfekter Sturm).

Yes, so many boats :D

In the Line of Fire and Air Force One I can fire up anytime, both terrific - I'm a little more selective about Das Boot, that requires a bit more of the right "mood", very possible the greatest "war movie" ever made, certainly in the running if we're talking naval related films.

Weirdly, I sometimes mix up Wolfgang Peterson and Peter Weir films, the latter responsible for another naval masterpiece, the underappreciated Master and Commander (and also directed a Harrison Ford movie for some additional overlap :) )
