Do you drop their salary? It would be completely unfair to take salary away if you're not willing to pay more when the scale tips in the other direction.
In most circumstances, yes. In fact I'd have to fight for that not to happen.

Not saying we'd dick over $500, but if the differences was substantial (e.g. the 50% difference I've quoted in my examples) then yeah, damn right I'd lower the salary - unless said worker was a veritable rock star whom loosing would cost more than the salary difference.

Now, that's ONLY if it's voluntary. If we request that employees work from home then I'd not see the same rule kicking in because that's the business deciding the rule - if the employee should then subsequently take advantage of that to move somewhere even cheaper, then that would be fine by me.

As a Director I'm required to ensure staffing costs fit inside an overall budget - and for that I answer to the C-Suite.
