I haven't lived in that many places, (I guess I'm currently in 'city' #4) but just from the stuff I see online, and obviously talking to people from other places, I'm not that surprised to see Australia and NZ represent 60% of the top 10. A little surprised to see my 'home town' (or, where I grew up at least) in #3 - it was a pretty sleepy place even compared to Melbourne last time I was there.

Edit: 60%, not 50%. I can't read/count today apparently.

I‘m not saying this is inaccurate, but it seems like whoever compiled the list has a bias towards Australia…

The pdf version of the report does highlight some of the reasoning for this specifically:

  • Six of the top ten cities in the March 2021 survey are in New Zealand or Australia, where tight border controls have allowed residents to live relatively normal lives.

This is also evidenced within those values: e.g. Melbourne was #1 from 2010 to 2017, and then second in 2018, 2019, and now is 8th.

Melbourne has a lot more going on than Adelaide in normal times, but they had many more issues during the Apocalypse - even now they're just about to end another period of "lockdowns".
