When a distinguished but elderly scientist states that something is possible, he is almost certainly right. When he states that something is impossible, he is very probably wrong. — Arthur C. Clarke

The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible. — Clarke

Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. — also Clarke

It was my ex's favorite movie, so have not seen it in years, though I have the Blu-ray version on my shelf.

Will watch it later and not just for the scene.

Thanks.

Are you not familiar with that scene? I think I read somewhere that Rutger Hauer actual improved that line.
It really hits home that Replicants are more human than not, they make poetry and rebel against being slaves. I‘m feeling like watching both Bladerunner movies. It’s a shame the second movie basically failed at the theater, because it was not considered a good enough story I guess. 🤔

My favorite quote from Bob Gates, former US Secretary of Defense, a past director of the CIA, past president of Texas A&M University, etc. etc., involves his considered description of Washington, DC as a city "where so many people are lost in thought because it's such unfamiliar territory."

Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country. — JFK

A sentiment which seems long lost in our current me-first society.
Today it’s more like:

”What have you done for me lately?” - Janet Jackson (definitely not the first to utter it)

I saw it first run. It was a double feature that opened with this comedy featuring Leonard Nimoy and Ricardo Montalban. I mean, I took some acid first, so that first movie was absolutely hilarious. And, of course, Blade Runner was breathtaking.

Yes!

Saw it when it originally ran, though not as part of a Nimoy/Montalban double feature (which sounds amazing :D) And I've purchased Blade Runner more than any other movie, on multiple formats, different versions, physical, digital, heck, it's probably been recut/remastered more than any other movie (even the SW stuff).

Well, I’ve never had the pleasure of acid, but I heard it is making a comeback in research regarding mental disorders, Now this is probably no comparison and it’s been a very long time, 5 decades, but from what I remember about Marijuana, I would be interested in experiencing it’s influence while watching something like Bladerunner. For myself the grass high was more of a mind altering/ expanding, perception experience, than alcohol, a blurring experience.

My problem if you want to call it that, is that I don’t like being high, with alcohol, a buzz is the most I want and then I stop drinking. Obviously it would take more of a commitment to Mary Jane, but hopefully it would be a net positive experience. Acid, I’d be very hesitant.

The Final Cut hopefully. I’m not an authority on all the versions, but my impression is that the Final Cut has the best ending as a stand alone story, but also ties into BR2049.

Oh definitely, it's the best and the one Scott himself said was the definitive version of his original vision.

I can’t believe I didn’t think of this one before, but references in the Ukraine thread to badass quotes made me think of this one from Babylon 5.

For the uninitiated, a purely evil asshole named Morden is quietly sowing the seeds of war by appealing to people’s ugly nationalist impulses, and then helping to make those warmongering wants a reality with the help of his alien “associates”. Death and destruction inevitably result.

At one point Morden speaks to a gentle soul named Vir and asks him what he wants. Vir is onto what Morden is doing and his classic response is unexpectedly badass:

I'd like to live just long enough to be there when they cut off your head and stick it on a pike as a warning to the next ten generations that some favors come with too high a price. I want to look up into your lifeless eyes and wave…like this. (Waves fingers.) Can you and your associates arrange that for me, Mr. Morden?

On that topic:

“No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against that power tyrants and dictators cannot stand. The Centauri learned that lesson once. We will teach it to them again. Although it take a thousand years, we will be free.”

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out-
Because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out-
Because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out-
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

- Martin Niemöller

Found this one from Gen. Omar Bradley courtesy CNN:

The world has achieved brilliance without wisdom, power without conscience. Ours is a world of nuclear giants and ethical infants. We know more about war than we know about peace, more about killing than we know about living.

Today is my birthday, so I am celebrating by having my Tesla towed to a tire place to get a hole patched, having gotten probably my 20th flat tire on this car since 2013. (Whatever happened to Tesla‘s mobile tire service? They seem to not exist, or at least they refuse to service me with it now).
