Not HERE.
Seeing a lot more intentional misinformation being passed around. Whether it's in forums using Reddit threads as some kind of authoritative source, blurry cellphone pictures with supposed knives circled in red, to just plain making up shit. On top of that, the better liars are ramping up on their game on social media.

This post on Twitter was marked "manipulative media", but I have a feeling whoever in is charge of monitoring this kind of stuff is going to be very busy in the next 3 months.

Video's been deleted. What'd it show?

from the twitter mods' explanation

– A video shared by Trump adviser Dan Scavino is manipulated to depict former VP Joe Biden sleeping during a televised news interview – The original clip stems from a 2011 interview with Harry Belafonte on California-news outlet KBAK, according to local news anchor John Dabkovitch

Well well well. Speaking of liars, look who’s back.

Swift Boat mastermind to launch massive super PAC to boost Trump

The new organization, Preserve America, is poised to begin a $30 million advertising blitz, an amount that's likely to escalate in the weeks to come, two people familiar with the effort told POLITICO. The super PAC is expected to draw the support of a range of GOP megadonors, including Las Vegas casino mogul Sheldon Adelson and Home Depot co-founder Bernie Marcus.
Preserve America will be overseen by Chris LaCivita, a veteran Republican strategist who orchestrated the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth takedown of John Kerry in the 2004 presidential race.

Christ. Well these guys haven't run into the buzzsaw that is Vote Vets Org yet have they. This is not fricken 2004 and the vets of Iraq and Afghanistan or any other theatre of war including Vietnam are not asleep at the switch today, thanks to how Trump has not minded mistreating assorted vets and their families with his budget "adjustments" and so forth.

And who would trust their hard earned money during covid-19 to a massive super PAC run by a guy who tried to bamboozle the country about Kerry back in the day... This is gonna be one of those gigs where someone cashes in on stupid schlumps for Trump...

That may explain why “people” are suddenly talking about the time Mitch McConnell fell asleep during an intelligence briefing.

I'm really interested to see how well all this law & order talk and iron fist approach will help or ding him in the polls. I think when the circumstances are right it's a good tactic but most Americans have been siding with the protesters. They seem more concerned with the virus and losing their jobs/businesses.

To get back the thread topic "Tis the lying season"... The AP has reported the names of the moderators past whom the candidates should think about how much lying they want to try to slide, during the upcoming presidential debates and the VP debate.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Representatives from Fox News, C-SPAN and NBC will moderate the upcoming debates between President Donald Trump and Democratic challenger Joe Biden.
According to the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates, the moderators will be:
—Chris Wallace of Fox News for the debate Sept. 29 in Cleveland.
—Steve Scully of C-SPAN for the “town meeting” debate Oct. 15 in Miami.
—NBC’s Kristen Welker for the debate Oct. 22 in Nashville, Tennessee.
The commission also announced Wednesday that USA Today’s Susan Page will moderate the vice presidential debate on Oct. 7 in Salt Lake City with Vice President Mike Pence and Democrat Kamala Harris.

I had read that Rudy Giuliani had sent a letter to the commission suggesting the names of a bunch of Fox hosts and conservative pundits, to which the commission had replied that they would, "take great care, as always, to ensure that the selected moderators are qualified and fair.“

Guess we'll hear from Rudy or The Don pretty quickly whether the array of moderators the commission came up with meets their criteria. Unlike previous presidential debates, each debate this year will be moderated by a single member of the press due to concerns over covid-19.

Live audiences are also a matter of concern, and barring outright cancellations in case of a spike, most of the debates will have audiences pared down from the usual 900 or so to somewhere around 150 to 200. Trump probably not going to care for that.

IMO Chris Wallace has shown himself to be fair with these things, I think it was a good call adding him here.

Someone here said that Trump’s lies know no bottom. Case in point:

The owner of a destroyed shop in Kenosha refused to pose with Trump – so they brought in the old owner

Proprietor of century-old camera shop said he did not want to become part of Trump’s ‘circus’

Donald Trump visited Kenosha, Wisconsin on Tuesday to survey businesses damaged by recent unrest over the shooting of Jacob Blake — but he was unable to convince all the owners to pose with him.
And when one owner in particular refused to take part in Mr Trump’s appearance, the president’s team instead welcomed the previous owner as if he were the current one.
...instead of leaving the shop out of Mr Trump’s stop, the White House team invited the previous owner, John Rode III, who was introduced by the president as if he currently owned the store — which Mr Gram bought from him eight years ago.
Mr Rode posed with a picture of the 109-year-old store and thanked Mr Trump for coming to see the damage, as well as for sending federal troops to calm the violence in the city. He also appeared later in the day at a roundtable with the president and attorney general Bill Barr, at which Mr Trump repeatedly complained about the Wisconsin governor’s reticence to call for federal help during the protests.

Truly, the man is a bottomless pit of self-inflation and deception. 😡

More:

From 'dark shadows' to 'thugs' on a plane, Trump wades deeper into conspiracy theories as election nears

...Conspiracy theories "are 'self-sealing' narratives, meaning no evidence is allowed to count against it," said (Jennifer) Mercieca, a communications associate professor at Texas A&M University. "The logic of conspiracy prevents it from ever being proven or disproven. If you try to fact-check it, conspiracists say, ‘The truth is out there. They are suppressing it.'"
Now that Biden has formally accepted his party's nomination to run against Trump in the November election, the president is circulating more unproven tales and at a faster clip.
“I don’t even like to mention Biden because he’s not controlling anything,” Trump said during an interview Monday night with Fox News host Laura Ingraham, echoing his often-repeated claim that Biden is a puppet of the radical left. Biden, he argued, is controlled by “people that you’ve never heard of, people that are in the dark shadows.”
In the same interview, Trump claimed – without evidence – that “thugs” in “black uniforms” had boarded a plane bound for Washington, where they intended to disrupt the Republican convention. When Ingraham asked for details, he replied: “I’ll tell you sometime. It’s under investigation right now.”
The next day, Trump added to the story, telling reporters he had been told about the flight by someone who was a passenger. He refused to identify his source.

Expect to see this all over social media as the Trumpers blindly repeat it.

😖 But good god, at what point does anybody with half a brain figure this is all bullshit?

This election we’re gonna need more than wading boots to get through this stuff. We’re gonna need a skin diving suit.

So that’s a hard NO then. 😏

It’s so like Giuliani to want the table slanted their way. They want to be in control of everything. Every. Fucking. Thing.

Yeah I guess Rudy and Trump figured "their boy" Hannity should be the pick for one of those debates. But the commission is nonpartisan so the only probable pick from Fox options was going to be Chris Wallace. Most likely they'd rather not have him asking all the questions in any particular debate.

But really with Trump how can it matter, he just says whatever comes to mind until the moderator interrupts and gives the other candidate a chance to rebut anything Trump said that was actually relevant, before moving on.

Having just one moderator in each of these debates (because of covid-19) may prove pretty tiring for the chosen moderators. It's not at all the same thing as a journalist snagging a 90-minute interview with someone for a long piece in a magazine.

(Back of my mind I even wonder if they'll switch it up after the first one, depending in part on how Trump behaves: add an extra moderator for the remaining two presidential debates and have them sit eight feet apart... but trust the candidates to behave themselves for the single VP debate and stick with one mod for that event.)

In years gone by, each of the debates would sometimes have two or three moderators.

Now, if I’m thinking like Giuliani, I’d want my panel of moderators to be, like, Jon Stewart, Keith Olbermann and Paul Krugman. 😁
