To get back the thread topic "Tis the lying season"... The
AP has reported the names of the moderators past whom the candidates should think about how much lying they want to try to slide, during the upcoming presidential debates and the VP debate.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Representatives from Fox News, C-SPAN and NBC will moderate the upcoming debates between President Donald Trump and Democratic challenger Joe Biden.
According to the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates, the moderators will be:
—Chris Wallace of Fox News for the debate Sept. 29 in Cleveland.
—Steve Scully of C-SPAN for the “town meeting” debate Oct. 15 in Miami.
—NBC’s Kristen Welker for the debate Oct. 22 in Nashville, Tennessee.
The commission also announced Wednesday that USA Today’s Susan Page will moderate the vice presidential debate on Oct. 7 in Salt Lake City with Vice President Mike Pence and Democrat Kamala Harris.
I had read that Rudy Giuliani had sent a letter to the commission suggesting the names of a bunch of Fox hosts and conservative pundits, to which the commission had replied that they would, "take great care, as always, to ensure that the selected moderators are qualified and fair.“
Guess we'll hear from Rudy or The Don pretty quickly whether the array of moderators the commission came up with meets their criteria. Unlike previous presidential debates, each debate this year will be moderated by a single member of the press due to concerns over covid-19.
Live audiences are also a matter of concern, and barring outright cancellations in case of a spike, most of the debates will have audiences pared down from the usual 900 or so to somewhere around 150 to 200. Trump probably not going to care for that.
