The small town of La Russell MO, down in the SE corner of the state, held an election to decide whether to annex into the Avilla Fire District. The city clerk checked the vote count several times before finally reporting the result: the question had tied at 0 to 0.

That is correct: not one of La Russell's 70 occupants bothered to vote. Now the city is checking state law, because there was a city board of trustees position on the ballot as well, which drew two candidates and they need to figure out how to handle that.

How can you run for something and not even be arsed to vote.

Tied 0-0? Sounds like they're gonna need a runoff election. šŸ˜„

It is amusing that neither of the trustee candidates could be bothered to vote for him/herself.

Sounds like they need to annex completely to Avilla. If you can't scare up even one vote, you need to be part of something bigger.

Admittedly, they do have to go to Sarcoxie, 7 miles away, to vote.

I drove 7 miles to drop my ballot off. Of course, it was a major election, but my vote was all but irrelevant.
