I remember being assigned to regularly watch the McNeil/Lehrer News Hour by a high school history teacher, and actually enjoying it.

RIP Jim. Definitely agree that the days of responsible reporting are long gone.

Though they don't command the gravitas of McNeil/Lehrer, the current anchors (Amna Nawaz and Geoff Bennett) on the PBS News Hour, and Amanpour and Co, in IMO, are quite good.

In addition to the News Hour, the Story of English documentary series and book were excellent.
