About as well as I can see the differences between being against Obama's policies vs being called a racist.
There's a distinct difference between being against Obama's policies and calling him a Nigerian socialist while carrying pics of him as a witch doctor with a bone through his nose. (See Birtherism AKA same old dog whistling bullshit) Especially when you're outraged that he's allegedly trying to provide for The Blacks™ at the expense of whites who make up by far the biggest users of the program. More white people were helped by Obamacare than Black and Latino populations combined (BTW, Latinos saw the biggest % increase in health care coverage)

Yeah, well there was a contingent of people that would accuse anyone against his policies of being racist. Probably a bit of what led to Trump.

Also, didn't think he actually did much specifically for Blacks.

To hear the screaming racists, he only did things specifically for Blacks. Y'all can't have it both ways: you can't jump on any general program or policy that helps Black people as being racist/divisive or snicker and say "didn't think he actually did much specifically for Blacks" when he doesn't fall into that trap. Similar to saying Blacks have to do for self and then when they try shouts of "Racist!!!" rain down.

The ACA helped all Americans but Black people had the highest uninsured rate when it was first implemented. Then Latinos had the highest increase in coverage percentage-wise, with whites the highest in total numbers covered by The ACA. But no, Obamacare was for "Ghetto dwellers" or "The Kenyans People" (forgetting that they switch between Nigerian, Kenyan or some other African nationality)

Y'all keep bring up the ACA, but I never thought of that as a racial issue hurting or benefiting any one race over another. I only saw my premiums triple in the 10 years it has been in effect.

The Justice Department will decide if that's the case. It is an independent department. And although the head of the Department, the Attorney General, is nominated by the President and must be confirmed by the Senate, they are free to make decisions based on their (Merrick Garland) independent judgment and reasoning.

Garland is already a Republican boogeyman. He could offer them all a cup of coffee and a bus ticket and the GOP will melt down.

You need to see the video of it. Biden looked as if he had no idea about it. Then said it wasn't going to happen.

While true, Biden can fire the AG at any time and replace him with someone new.

The damage is already done. Too many voters will conflate doing this with failing to deliver economic relief to Americans, and as I mentioned already, in right leaning America just the left's interest in doing something is as bad/good as actually doing it. We’re all drowning in socialism right now.

Liberals need to realize we have our own problems in this country. I don't wish any harm on illegal immigrants, but no one gives a fuck about them when people have their own problems to worry about. That's the tea! #KeepingItReal

For my part, I realize I might be coming off as cold hearted with my recent posts, especially for a lefty, but I’m looking at potential votes over the next couple years. Democrats lose enough of those and next thing you know people are going to prison for attempting to have abortions and getting fined for not using the Trump salute when greeting people. So pick the battles wisely for now and try to pick the battles that are going to benefit the most people, even those on the right. Hopefully the reward for that will be not voting authoritarianism and increasing Democrat in control of Congress so just one or two corporate extremist assholes can no longer derail everything.

Same here. I may be coming off as cold hearted to some and I've even been called a Trump supporter for it LOL I consider myself more in the moderate range than a leftie liberal. I just appear leftie liberal to Republicans because they have gone off the deep end.

I'm looking at the big picture. I'm not wishing any harm on these people, I just don't think we should be giving money to illegal immigrants. That's how you lose voters when they're struggling to put food and gas in their cars, but you're handing out $450k to an illegal immigrant. I'm glad Biden said no.

Republicans are going off the deep end and doubling down on the fascism. The one thing about them is that they unite no matter what. That is why it looks like a cult following a sports team. You have Trump flags everywhere. And Go Brandon stickers everywhere. That is a cult no matter how you slice it. If you're running around with #GoBrandon everywhere I got some bad news for you. You're in a cult.

Even if Trump doesn’t run in 2024, whoever the Republicans do run certainly won’t be a moderate. If a moderate even attempted to run they’d DNC style their ass out the back door and lock it. If they removed all their popular extremist platforms, including calling everything left socialism!, they’d just be left with fiscal conservatism and then they wouldn’t even be able to win a grade school election with their base.

It’s kind of ironic when right white America thinks of socialism all arrows point to South American failings while they completely ignore the successes of Scandinavian socialism. Those people are pretty damn white. You’d think they’d be praising white people for getting something right that the brown people are failing at. Maybe they think Scandinavians are snow Mexicans.

Well, that's the problem. Republicans are much better at uniting. The Trump cult has been very successful. Republicans who rejected the cult are ostracized and even stripped of power (Liz Cheney). The Democrats would be a lot more effective if they could create a similar progressive cult, but they don't want to do that because many of the Democrats are just as corporate and neoliberal as the Republicans and only appear to differ from them on certain wedge issues (but it's those wedge issues that drive the voters--Republicans proved in this recent election that saying "they're coming for your kids!" wins elections, even if it's based on complete BS).

I guess what I'm saying is I hate the current system but it's hopeless to try and change it, so might as well drink the Rite-Aid whiskey.

I will simply say you are both being pragmatic. You understand the electorate and that the reason for Tuesday was not because the party didn't go left far enough.

Well, that's the problem. Republicans are much better at uniting.

I have said this before and been mocked, but since it is what I believe, I will say it again. One of the problems of being the "Big Tent" party is sometimes factions under that tent are not compatible. The GOP has fewer, but larger factions so less chances for divisions like we are currently seeing with the Dems.

(but it's those wedge issues that drive the voters--Republicans proved in this recent election that saying "they're coming for your kids!" wins elections, even if it's based on complete BS).

Which isn't really much different than the Dems telling seniors the GOP is coming for their Social Security.

Honestly, I think the current losses have mostly to do with Covid ideology differences.

I also know not all things in the current bill being debated are popular, but you’d have a hard time convincing me that the average voter even on the right is alarmed by the looming threat of expanded Medicare, family leave, drug price negotiation, lowering drug prices, and taxing billionaires. And when people are struggling economically currently you can’t convince me their bigger concern is the national debt. “I’ll just eat ramon and wipe my ass with leaves so we can lower the national debt”.
