The parentage/incest is who the Targaryans are so it doesn't bother me.

It doesn't bother me in a hard to watch way. I think they are just spending way too much time on it, like there's nothing else of importance going on in the realm....especially considering there seems to be some major time jumps in the season or even just one episode.

I think it's such a strong key point of Targaryen history and they needed to show the progression of Daemond and Rhaenyra's relationship. Especially now that they've switched out the actress playing Rhaenyra.

The one complaint I had of this episode is echoed by many. Some scenes were too dark. The same thing happened in parts of GOT and it drove me nuts.

ETA: This made me laugh.

I know zero about the books but I’ve been under the impression that this series was intended to be a smaller, more focused story than GOT. I may be incorrect.

Last night’s episode was great!

edit: The names, though. It’s killing me, I’m struggling to keep track of the characters.
Glad Im not the only one — some of the names are so similar it's hard to remember who's who. I enjoyed the episode more than any of the preceding ones. I'm having a hard time rooting for anyone, though — all the characters are pretty nasty.

I really don’t get the casting change to simulate a time jump. It’s not like the original actors looked like they were 12 and the new actors look like they are in their 40’s. At best they look like they are siblings with maybe a couple years age difference. Not to mention it’s been the biggest joke in Hollywood for ages that they cast people in their mid 20’s or even early 30’s in some cases as high school students. They should have just stuck to the oldest cliché. Make them wear glasses as their older selves.

it was the best way to confuse the audience as to what the hell is going on, because it’s not like they can turn down the screen brightness to zero in EVERY scene…

Maybe they didn’t have enough money in the budget for the astronomical cost of starting an episode with a black screen with the year in a white font or something extravagant like “15 years later”. It’s much easier to recast major characters and scrape together some funds for the king's makeup and thinning hair.

I'm having a hard time rooting for anyone, though — all the characters are pretty nasty.

Wife is the same way. She doesn't like any of the characters so she has lost interest. Same thing happened way back with The Soprano's and I finished the last few seasons watching it solo.

I tried to get to to watch hoping something really bad would happen to a character she didn't like, but that didn't get me anywhere.
