Holy Shit!

Just like that, the NBA season is over?

https://www.twitter.com/i/web/status/1298816172129828864/

NBA players and coaches held an impromptu meeting at the Disney bubble to discuss plans following the postponement of three playoff games on Wednesday, including the Milwaukee Bucks-Orlando Magic game in which Milwaukee players staged a walk-out before the start of Game 5 of the first-round series. The Lakers and Clippers were among the minority of teams that are pushing to end the season, according to Sham Charania of The Athletic. LeBron James said in the meeting he wants the team owners to be more involved and take action.

The protest comes in response to the shooting of an unarmed Black man named Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin, on Sunday. Shortly after the Bucks made a statement by not playing, the Rockets and Thunder decided to also not play today, as well as the Lakers and Trail Blazers.

Bucks owners Marc Lasry, Wes Edens and Jamie Dinan released the following joint statement:

"We fully support out players and the decision they made. Although we did not know beforehand, we would have wholeheartedly agreed with them. The only way to bring about change is to shine a light on the racial injustices that are happening in front of us. Our players have done that and we will continue to stand alongside them and demand accountability and change."

News of the Bucks walking out has sent a ripple effect across sports in the United States. Here's a look at all of the games postponed as a sign of protest:

  • NBA: Orlando Magic vs. Milwaukee Bucks (Game 5 -- first round)
  • NBA: Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Houston Rockets (Game 5 -- first round)
  • NBA: Portland Trail Blazers vs. Los Angeles Lakers (Game 5 -- first round)
  • WNBA: Washington Mystics vs. Atlanta Dream
  • WNBA: Los Angeles Sparks vs. Minnesota Lynx
  • WNBA: Connecticut Sun vs. Phoenix Mercury
  • MLB: Cincinnati Reds vs. Milwaukee Brewers
  • MLB: Seattle Mariners vs. San Diego Padres
  • MLB: Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Francisco Giants
  • MLS: Atlanta United vs. Inter Miami
  • MLS: FC Dallas vs. Colorado Rapids
  • MLS: Real Salt Lake vs. Los Angeles FC
  • MLS: San Jose Earthquakes vs. Portland Timbers
  • MLS: Los Angeles Galaxy vs. Seattle Sounders

At least four MLS games today are marked "postponed due to team boycott", as well as three MLB games. Hockey (in August, FFS) appears unstoppable, though. So far.
The issues with hockey make that clear that this will NEVER be an issue with league. Meanwhile POC athletes have their own issues with the NHL, but the NHL had their awkward moment in the beginning, and that's about as much as anyone should expect.

If the NFL boycotts games, right-wingers' heads will explode. Their faux-anger over the protests is just something for them to gripe about because they think it makes liberals look bad. But if you take away their Sunday NFL game, they will lose their minds.

As a hockey fan, I noticed how awkward the BLM thing was and how it basically just centered on one guy. It felt like tokenism. They are talking about the NBA boycott, saying they support it, but it looks like they will keep playing.
