Apparently, Judge Merchan has delayed ruling on whether to fine Trump for violating the gag order, so the most we can expect is a meaningless financial penalty. What would it take for Trump to be jailed, as anyone else in his position would be? Does he have to actively call for the judge or one of the witnesses to be attacked? What would happen if Trump posted the above on his platform?

I'm no lawyer but the answer to this is clearly that there is nothing he can do that will land him in jail. Nothing.

Being a former president with seemingly unlimited funds appears to give him immunity to crimes that land ordinary people in prison for years. I think anyone who is hopeful for the law to apply to Trump will be sorely disappointed, he will die a free man never having served a day behind bars. We have to beat him at the ballot box.

Sadly, that may be true.

I was referring to trump defying the judge's gag order during the trial, where a large fine might be deemed appropriate, out of expediency and convenience, considering the secret service protection issue.

Looks like the judge wants briefing on this issue and will have a hearing on it tomorrow.

Actually, a fine would be typical for a first offense.

Trump just violated the gag order by bad-mouthing a witness in the case that starts this week. I won’t bother repeating it or linking to it.

Good chance he spends the trial in a jail cell.

If the judge imposes a fine for the first offense in this trial, doesn't it mean Trump would have to violate the gag order again to potentially reach a threshold the judge thinks merits incarceration, or am I misunderstanding how it would work?

A lot of people who are otherwise uninterested in politics may be interested in a trial of. Nothing these moron criminals do is ever on the up. It’s always “a mistake”, “our lawyers fault”, and when it’s clear it was THEIR willful lawfulness, then it turns into “We did it BEAUTIFULLY and PERFECTLY and EVERYONE GOT RICH AND HAPPY.”

Which, even if true, is the same thing as being pulled over driving drunk and telling the officer you didn’t kill anyone, so what’s the harm?
