Watching Trump at the UN today his focus is blame China and impose penalties. He has never once offered a solution for anything, he only deals with threats and ultimatums to get his way and does it with heavy handed partisanship, he makes GWB look like a saint. If Biden wins, it will be a refreshing change of pace to see someone with experience and empathy for everyone.

And I remember those supporters of his four years ago who used to excuse his outrageous remarks and explain away his coarse, boorish, bullying and wild rhetoric with, "ah, he is only in campaigning mode. Wait until he becomes president. He'll change, you'll see.."

But, he never did.

Who he was then, is who he is now.

Trump's bragging about having killed Soleimani, --all things considered including manner, time, place and the fact that the guy was not just "a terrorist" but politically an iconic right hand man to another country's head of state-- was much more suited to domestic consumption than to a speech before a world body. See this is another longstanding and potentially self-damaging problem of ours with the Trump administration: his advisors aren't worth a damn when it comes to taking into account other world views, which is something any great power must do when out there on the world stage. And talking to China across that stage as if Xi and Trump are just having a pissing match out behind the barn is ill advised as well... no matter how China might choose to speak on such an occasion.

Trump's not even the opposite of "speak softly and carry a big stick". He speaks as a typical bully, and he's one who often gets talked down by staffers realizing some of his tweets were way over the top. The problem with that for us down the road is that he's known for his fabrications, and so our frenemies and enemies may that figure everything he ever said --including his loose threats about unknown weaponry we may or may not have on tap-- is nothing but a crock meant to shore up the admiration of his strongman-happy base.
