As much as I was not a fan of the ACA, why in the cornbread hell did the Dems not nationally legalize abortion when they passed it. The ACA was kryptonite to many of their careers, so why not at least put something good in the bill?
Fair question but I don't think anyone thought we would be going back to civil war area logic. If Dems get power back they better get their shit together and make these things the law of the land, this SCOTUS is radical and has already done a lot of damage. We really need an act of congress to fix it.

As for AZ, if Republicans wanted to make the worst possible play for the state they were successful. Funny thing about women is they vote and even in red states this has been a huge losing issue for them that drives people to the ballot box.

Did you see that a lot of Republicans in AZ are trying to distance themselves from the state supreme court ruling (even if they are on the record as supporting this shit)? Even Kari Lake is trying to say it was a little too far.

They know that they overstepped the line and are a little bit anxious of the backlash. However, I don't believe the words that come out of their mouths.

Abortion was already the law of the land. And even if democrats do codify things into law, another conservative supreme court or a conservative congress that has their act together can just do what they did this time - roll back the laws.

Voters sometimes have to be the ones to say "enough".

I thought this has to be fake, and then dug into the “unaffordable dishwasher” one. It’s makes more sense now.

The Committee on Energy and Commerce, to whom was referred the bill (H.R. 7700) to prohibit the Secretary of Energy from pre- scribing or enforcing energy conservation standards for dish- washers that are not cost-effective or technologically feasible, and for other purposes, having considered the same, reports favorably thereon without amendment and recommends that the bill do pass.

To show how inefficient the republicans are, couldn't they have just made this into one HR Act?

Dishwashers are the paragon of ridiculously wasteful labor saving devices, only barely beating out garbage disposals (we took the disposal out because it just got too disgusting and was only useful for filling up the septic tank faster).

To be "Pro life" in Texas

Most people on a government funded health plan (otherwise the state couldn't remove them) are poor and desperate. So this really only hurts those on the bottom of the society barrel. Now they want even more unwanted babies that they won't take care of for some reason. Odd that a baby inside someone is one of the most precious gifts in the entire universe, but outside of the body they appears to be more akin to yesterday's trash. It's not wanted and they just want it out of sight where it can be forgotten.

They believe this behavior will get them two thumbs up when they arrive at Heaven. They truly believe they're doing God's work here. I grew up in church hearing about the evils of abortion. But I don't recall a single sermon that was about supporting and helping that mother after forcing your will upon her. In their minds abortion = bad, and that's pretty much the end of that particular train of thought. It's a super short ride.

Republicans again for freedom of speech. and of course the added 10,000 fee for anyone turning someone else in. I say go for it it will help the democrats even more.

TRUMP MAGA SENATOR PROPOSES LAW THAT WOULD MAKE WATCHING P0RN A FELONY AND BAN SEXTING OUTSIDE MARRIAGE

The bill, set to be introduced next month (February) by state Sen. Dusty Deevers (R-Elgin), would prohibit consuming or producing sexual content that “lacks serious literary, artistic, educational, political, or scientific purposes or value” in any medium.

The measure defines “obscene material” as the depiction or description of any “acts of sexual intercourse,” including those that are “normal or perverted, actual or simulated.”

Content depicting sodomy and masturbation would also be off the table, in addition to videos, movies, video games and text messages that involve “sadomasochistic abuse” and “acts of excretion in a sexual context.”

Under the measure, pictures of human genitals or women’s breasts would also be banned as well as “lewd exhibition” of the “buttocks.”

In Oklahoma City, they can sell videos with images of porn, but it’s Cinemax Porn when you watch it. I mean, at least that’s someone once told me. I never experienced it for myself when I was there on business in 2003. 🤫

From today's NYT. Astonishing:

"Many voters still remember Mr. Trump as a divisive and polarizing figure, giving him low ratings on race relations and unifying the country. Yet, a larger share of voters see Mr. Trump’s term as better for the country than the current administration, with 42 percent rating the Trump presidency as mostly good for the country compared with 25 percent who say the same about Mr. Biden’s."

Yeah, I loved paying all that money for groceries when he was in charge. I guess because the prices are still inflated, it was actually better when the prices were even more inflated. 🤦‍♂️

According to republicans, an acquittal (or, in this case, outright dismissal) must mean there’s no “there” there. That’s just according to their standards.

In this case, there actually wasn’t any “there” there. It was part of their “Biden’s bad border policies” debate. Trump asking Zelensky to dig up dirt while withholding aid is not a policy issue. Overturning an election, inciting an insurrection and using unlawful means to rig an election result is NOT policy.
