National security officials on Wednesday announced that Iran and Russia have obtained swaths of voter registration information that could support their efforts to interfere in the 2020 presidential election.

Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe, FBI Director Christopher Wray and other top national security officials, in an abruptly scheduled press conference, said Iran had already made use of the registration information to attempt to influence voters.

“These actions are desperate attempts by desperate adversaries,” Ratcliffe said.

The spin was marvelous though. Unless, of course, they were not talking about the threatening emails people have received. The Proud Boys, whom Trump seems to like, would certainly send out such emails. So if Russia or Iran sent them falsely on behalf of the PBs, it sounds normal, and cannot be spun as anti-Trump. No matter how much you try.

I don't think they're convincing anyone that Russia (in particular) is doing it to hurt Trump, they love him. However, you're right that he didn't have to imply anything, it came off as a political stunt when he did.

On the other hand, it's not gone unnoticed how Trump has treated female reporters, and it's not like women who see those incidents forget them. Just in case some of us missed a few, relevant clips are turning up now just in time for early voting.
