Florida Surgeon General warns against new COVID-19 booster shot ahead of FDA approval

MTP did a story on how the disportionate amount of Republicans who died as a result of COVID 19 could impact the elections, particularly those that are close and only determined by a percentage point of two. Republicans are their own worst enemies.

These people are on a collision course for civil war with themselves, not democrats. Their lies are broken down into further lies. For instance, Brian Kemp is handling the election lies well, but he is also attacking Trump for following the advice of Fauci. So republicans are splitting along these different issues. When you roll with lies and not the truth, there’s infinite versions of lies to spin, and different factions of republicans have different lies that aren’t compatible with other people’s lies.

I think we’re going to see some of that play out with McCarthy’s circus caucus.

If there are COVID outbreaks, it’s going to be interesting to see how Trump and DeSantis are attacked because at least initially and in regards to vaccines, they were somewhat reasonable.

But, DeSantis is still governor and if there’s a serious outbreak, it will be interesting to see how DeSantis responds, since he’s still governor of FL and Trump has no current responsibilities and will rewrite history anyways. Trump can just attack DeSantis no matter how he handles his COVID messaging and policies. The sad part is that the health and safety of the public and the stress on the healthcare workers and system will be the last thing on their minds - the only thing on their minds will be how to use COVID to make the other side look worse.

The republicans treating Dr. Fauci as someone who should be fired is really emblematic of the decline of America pulling together during crisis. Imagine if democrats at large had called Rudy an incompetent racist who should resign for failing to keep NYC safe during 9/11, and that’s a comparable scenario. In any other time, Fauci would have been revered with a national approval rating in the 90% range.

If there is a major Covid resurgence in FL, we will never hear about it. DeathSantis has a stranglehold on how Covid cases are (not) reported. Whatever little information gets out of Florida will be watered down to make him of heroic status.

Not questioning the numbers, but would like to see how they correlate with age. Older people tend to be more Republican and older people are more affected by COVID. So it would make sense that they (Republicans) had higher death rates.

I think in the bigger scheme of things it's probably negligible but the point they made on MTP was in a really tight race it could make a difference. I doubt we'll ever truly know though. 🤷‍♂️

Looks to me like a wash. I suspect that Rs tend to be older more than younger, but older people overall are fairly evenly split (a few %pts is statistically trivial).
Fake news! J/K

I thought that it might be more of an assumption that younger folks vote D (mid 40% to mid 30%) so rightish there. I think I was more surprised that it is that close.

I am not, really. The long poll by them, that goes back to '04, asking are you D, R or Ind, shows party ID (without "lean") consistently under 30%, trending toward sub-25%. And yet the parties still carry so much weight. If they continue to ignore the kids, they will lose it all by 2050 – unless the Rs finally manage to turn us into the USCR ('C' for christian instead of socialist).

There was this R prez "debate", hosted by Univision's own Ilia Calderón. Desadness tried to be the adult in the room (spoiler: no one noticed).

(Tim) Scott questioned how (Vivek) Ramaswamy could say the rest of the field was “bought and paid for” when Ramaswamy was “just in business with the Chinese Communist Party and the same people who funded Hunter Biden ... was a partner of yours as well.”

Ramaswamy tried to swat away Scott’s barb, claiming that he only meant his rivals were “good people tainted by a broken system” and that he subsequently “got the hell out” of China.

Vivek
: "It’s nonsense”
Tim: “It’s not nonsense”
Ron: “Can we please focus on the issues that matter”
Vivek: “Thank you for speaking while I’m interrupting
Ilia: “If you’re all speaking at the same time, no one can understand you”

"Thank you for speaking while I’m interrupting" has to be the signature line.

I tuned in for a few minutes while Christie was aptly dodging a question that he really should have answered, and then the rest turned hysterical, shouting over their muted microphones to get some kind of attention. Christie was the only adult in the room, and I changed the channel in disgust or perhaps impatience.

so when do they start bussing gay kids to California?

Florida school district orders librarians to purge all books with LGBTQ characters

Librarians in public schools in Charlotte County, Florida, were instructed by the school district superintendent to remove all books with LGBTQ characters or themes from school and classroom libraries.

The guidance by Charlotte County Superintendent Mark Vianello and the school board's attorney, Michael McKinley, was obtained by the Florida Freedom to Read Project (FFTRP) through a public records request and shared with Popular Information. FFTRP requested "electronic records of district and school decisions regarding classroom and library materials." In response, FFTRP received a document memorializing a July 24 conversation between Vianello and district librarians, known in Florida as media specialists.

A spokesperson for the school district did not dispute the accuracy of the document but emphasized it was a summary, not a verbatim transcript.

This is interesting... a Newsom - desantis debate in late November. I suppose it's being characterized as Newsom filling in for Biden and pushing the overall Democratic agenda. OTOH, perhaps the DNC is testing the waters for a potential Plan B should Biden decide to not run, for whatever reason.

Apparently someone was looking at Desadness's shoes and thought there was something odd about them.

It would seem that his connection to Florida is that the 3-Ring he worked in spent the colder months in Winter Park.
